Description

Dutch merchants first discovered the stone off the west coast of Italy in the late 17th or early 18th century AD. The name Tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word ‘tourmalee’, which is the name given to all the coloured crystals on the Sri Lanka island at that time. This entire name refers to the inability of ancient gem dealers to distinguish tourmaline from other stones

Tourmaline is said to be the stone of reconciliation, a stone that enhances compassion and calm mind, radiates energy that attracts money, healing and friendship, and is used for grounding purposes, to stabilize our earthly roots.

The Chinese have been carving and digging forms of tourmaline for centuries, and ancient examples are still on display in museums, a testament to the durability of the stone. In the second picture you can see the intricately carved Chinese glass made of pink tourmaline.
